If your horse is not sweating or is not sweating enough despite high ambient temperatures, he or she may have anhidrosis.
A terbutaline sweat test can be done by your vet to confirm complete or partial anhidrosis.
Some of the common remedies for non-sweating include:
- One A/C
- Dark beer such as Guiness (1 bottle twice a day)
- Platinum Refresh
- Acupuncture
- Chinese herbs
- Changing time outside from day to night
- Fans on inside +/- misters
- Hosing down occasionally
- Moving to a more northern climate for at least one season
