FAQ – Anhidrosis, Non-sweating

If your horse is not sweating or is not sweating enough despite high ambient temperatures, he or she may have anhidrosis.

A terbutaline sweat test can be done by your vet to confirm complete or partial anhidrosis.

Some of the common remedies for non-sweating include:

  • One A/C
  • Dark beer such as Guiness (1 bottle twice a day)
  • Platinum Refresh
  • Acupuncture
  • Chinese herbs
  • Changing time outside from day to night
  • Fans on inside +/- misters
  • Hosing down occasionally
  • Moving to a more northern climate for at least one season
